Privacy Policy
Terv is a personal task and goal planner with an in-app AI assistant. This policy explains what data Terv collects, why, who processes it, and the choices you have. Terv is operated by [COMPANY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS] ("we", "us").
What we collect
- Account data: your email address, name and password (stored hashed, never in plain text). You sign up with email and password through Neon Auth.
- Your content: the tasks, ideas, goals, notes and calendar items you create in Terv.
- Optional amounts: personal finance entries you choose to attach to items.
- Optional photos: images you attach to tasks or send in chat.
- Assistant chat history: your conversations with the assistant, kept so you can return to them and so the assistant has context.
- Usage of the assistant: how much AI work your account has done in the current period, so we can show your remaining allowance and keep the service running.
- Subscription status: whether your account has an active subscription, when the period ends and whether it renews. The App Store tells us this; we never see your card, and we do not process payments ourselves.
We collect only what the app needs to work. Terv shows no ads and does not sell personal data.
Why we use it
- To run the service: signing you in, storing and syncing your plans across devices.
- To provide the assistant: it reads the tasks and notes you ask it about and writes the changes you ask for.
- To bill and to keep your allowance honest: to know whether your subscription is active and how much of the period's AI credits you have used.
- To support you when you contact us, and to keep the service secure and reliable.
How Terv uses AI
Terv only sends something to an AI when you ask. Typing, tapping and planning by hand are saved to your Terv account, as always — they are not sent to an AI. A request goes to the AI only when you send a chat message, record dictation, attach a photo, or ask for a reply to be read aloud. A request you started may finish while the app is closed; Terv never starts one on its own.
Reading photos you file: when the setting Read new photos automatically is on, a photo you add to a note or a task is sent once to be read, so that the text in it can be searched. The text, a short description and a few keywords are stored with the photo. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → AI and your data; text already read stays readable and searchable, and photos you added earlier are not read unless you ask.
What is sent: your message; the parts of your plan the assistant reads to answer it (the tasks, goals and notes it opens for that request); photos you attach; the voice you dictate; and what Terv remembers about you, if Memory is on.
What is never sent: your password or anything you sign in with, your payment details (the App Store holds those, not Terv), and your whole plan — only what the request needs is read.
Who processes it: chat, photo and dictation requests go through Vercel AI Gateway to the model provider that answers them — today OpenAI models, and Perplexity when the assistant searches the web; spoken replies are generated by an OpenAI text-to-speech model called directly. These providers process a request only to produce its answer, under their own API terms. OpenAI’s API terms state that API data is not used to train their models; we hold providers to the same standard and will name any exception here.
Your consent: you agree to AI processing in the app before the first request, and the version and date of that agreement are stored on your account. You can withdraw it at any time in Settings → AI and your data. With AI off, Terv keeps every task, idea, goal and note and stays a manual planner: chat, dictation, photo reading and read-aloud stop until you turn it back on. Withdrawing consent does not cancel a subscription — see below.
Our infrastructure providers also process data on our behalf: Vercel (web hosting, API and private file storage), Neon (database and authentication), RevenueCat (subscription status), and Expo and Apple for the mobile app.
Subscription and payment data
Terv Pro is an auto-renewing monthly subscription bought through the App Store. Apple takes the payment; we never receive or store your card details. We receive from Apple, through RevenueCat, only whether your account has an active entitlement, which product it is, when the current period ends, whether it renews and whether a trial applies.
A 7-day introductory free trial is offered when you are eligible, and eligibility is determined by the App Store for Terv's subscription group. Renewal and cancellation are managed in Apple's subscription settings on your device; refunds are handled by Apple, not by us.
"AI credits" are a usage allowance, not money and not a currency. They cannot be bought, transferred or cashed out. Unused credits do not carry over: each billing period opens a fresh allowance. When the allowance is used up, or when a subscription ends or expires, manual planning continues to work exactly as before — nothing you created is deleted by an expiry.
Storage and security
Your data is stored in a database hosted by Neon. Photos are stored in private Vercel Blob storage and are served only to you, the signed-in owner. Photos are accepted up to 6 MB each, and an account holds about 1 GB in total. If you reach that ceiling, new uploads are refused with a clear message — files you already uploaded stay accessible and are never removed to make room.
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data and will tell you if a breach affects you.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. You can also ask us at support@terv.app.
Deletion removes your tasks, ideas, goals, notes and calendar items, your photos and other uploaded files, your assistant chats and memories, your usage records, and it closes your sign-in account so it can no longer be used (the sign-in record itself is removed from our sign-in provider as the last step of the same deletion). Two things do not disappear with it, and we say so plainly:
- Items you shared with a family space stay with that family, so the people still using them do not lose their plans. Your name is removed from them and they are attributed to "a former member".
- Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription. Apple owns that; cancel it in Apple's subscription settings, or it keeps renewing.
After deletion we keep only what the law requires us to keep — for example the billing records a tax authority obliges us to retain — and nothing else. Short-lived technical backups expire on their own schedule afterwards.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, write to us from the address on your account — through the form at terv.app/support or at support@terv.app. We answer within the time the law requires.
Children
Terv is not directed at children under [MINIMUM AGE]. We do not knowingly collect data from them; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and let you know in the app or by email before the change takes effect. If the change concerns AI processing, the app asks you to agree again.
